Spanish Minister Defends Killer Cucumber Crop

The Spanish agriculture minister has defended the country's cucumber crop by eating the fruit on TV, as at least 14 people are killed in an E.coli outbreak.

Health officials say the death toll is expected to worsen in the coming days as the virus spreads across Europe .

Hundreds more are ill from viruses linked to the contaminated vegetables.

But Spain's agriculture minister Rosa Aguilar defended her country's fresh produce and said it is still unclear exactly when and where the vegetables were contaminated.
